When you are about to undergo surgery, you want to know that you are in safe hands.
As your anaesthetist, it will be my job to ensure that you are unaware of the procedure (if that is what you want), feel as little pain as possible, and that you have a smooth recovery from your anaesthetic.
I have over 35 years experience as a medical specialist, and currently hold specialist qualifications in anaesthesia and intensive care. I was a foundation fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.
I currently work as a casual visiting Senior Specialist Anaesthetist at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in Brisbane, and I also administer anaesthetics at a number of private hospitals in Brisbane and surrounding areas. I work regularly at the Greenslopes Private Hospital, and have cared for over 800 patients undergoing catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation.
The most important concern is your safety, and I will, in a sense, be 'watching over' you during the anaesthetic and surgery, adjusting the anaesthetic to minimize the surgical stress and giving the operator the best conditions to perform surgery or other procedures requiring my help.
I undertook postgaduate training in anaesthesia and intensive care at Westmead hospital in Sydney. I then worked in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine in Canberra, before moving to Newcastle (NSW) and then to Brisbane. I have worked as Director of Department in each of the specialtiesheld. After an extensive period as a Senior Staff Specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women's hospital, I entered full time anaesthetic private practice in 2005. My interests include management of the critically ill patient, medical informatics and art.
I am a member of the QLD executive of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists and have clinical privileges at the following hospitals:
